South Tyneside College

South Tyneside College provides a wide range of vocational courses, including BTEC, Foundation Learning, functional literacy and numeracy, work skills, work experience, independent travel and learning support.

Specialist learner support for autism is offered through Interface, which offers a range of programmes for students who have autistic spectrum conditions and autistic traits.  Interface is a discreet provision which has its own building - Dr Winterbottom Hall - and can be used by students during lunchtimes, breaks and free periods.

Four learning pathways are currently available from entry level up to level 2, which are:

  • independent living skills
  • social and emotional skills
  • employability skills
  • academic and vocational skills.

Criteria for access
South Tyneside college will consider applicants with a range of moderate to severe difficulties, and other young people who may require additional support for their learning.

Interface aims to cater for the needs of people with autism, Asperger's Syndrome and young people with autistic traits.

Universal services
South Tyneside College is a universal service but entry requirements and criteria apply for some courses and applicants are advised to contact the college directly.
