Thornbeck College

Thornbeck College is an independent specialist college for people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), learning difficulties and or disabilities. It is a registered charity which is based in Sunderland. The College forms part of the North East Autism Society (NEAS). The College encourages learners from all backgrounds and cultures. All learners have autism spectrum condition (ASC), associated learning difficulties, and varying levels of challenging behaviour. Some have other health issues such as epilepsy.

Thornbeck College’s ‘Learning for Living and Work’ Programme focuses on equipping learners with the skills they need for living and work. Learners will have the opportunity to practice and develop work related skills in a range of supported and open employment projects. Learners will also have the opportunity to practice and develop the life skills needed to participate fully as members of their community. A person-centred approach underpins the ‘Learning for Living and Work’ Programme to ensure that the programme meets the individual needs, interests and aspirations of learners.
