Introduction to Childminding Practice

This Introduction to Childminding Practice course will give you the relevant qualification to register with Ofsted and begin your childminding career. The units will give you a foundation for your learning, with many of the tasks forming working documents for your childminding practice. 

This is just the beginning of your learning journey and it is important to continue with your own professional development so we would encourage you to attend training opportunities, network meetings and briefings.

Unit 1.1 – Introduction to Childminding practice

Unit 1.2 – Welfare requirements

Unit 1.3 – Safeguarding

Unit 1.4 – Equality and Diversity

Unit 1.5 – Routines

Unit 1.6 – SEND

Unit 1.7 – Learning and Behaviour

Unit 1.8 – Play

Unit 1.9 – Observations

Unit 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 – Leading and managing/Business aspects of childminding

Unit 2.4 – Review and next steps

Following successful completion of the ICP course you will receive:

  • Qualification
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead certificate

The Early years team will then support you through the Ofsted registration process, the pre-registration visit and once registered, will offer monthly support visits in the first instance then ongoing support.
