The Language and Learning Partnership (LLP) outreach service is for children in mainstream education within Sunderland between the ages of 2-14, who, because of their moderate to severe language or learning difficulties, are having difficulty accessing the curriculum.
The Service offers advice, support and intervention to schools, voluntary, private and statutory agencies. LLP aims to empower both individual staff and settings as a whole, to develop their own skills in improving outcomes for children.
LLP also offers a number of training courses. The LLP training programme is designed to meet the needs of parents, carers and professionals working with children with a range of language and learning difficulties.
Criteria for access
Children can be referred to the service in a number of ways:
- Onward referral from another professional
- Direct referral
- Through the Strenghtening Families process

Universal services
LLP offers a variety of services to stakeholders:
- Consultation with staff in schools
- Consultation with multi-agency professionals
- Traning for professionals
- Training for parents and carers
Targeted services
- Supporting schools with personalised targeted strategies and interventions for pupils referred to the service
- Working alongside Behaviour Teams for joint behaviour and learning referrals
- Working alongside the NHS Speech and Language Therapy Service's Complex Learning and Language Team for specific children
- Working alongside Autism Outreach Team (AOT) to develop strategies and resources for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Training for professionals e.g. working with mainstream children on p-levels
- Training for parents / carers / professionals, e.g. Sensory Integration, Makaton, etc.
- Transition planning for pupils within the service
- Supporting the FSA process for pupils referred to the service
