Homeless support - Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP)

In this section you will find information and services that can help you if your a faced with or are homeless.

What is SWEP?

During extremely cold weather specifically when temperatures fall to zero degrees or lower for three days, special measures are put in place called the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP).

How does SWEP work?

When SWEP comes into force the Council and other organisations in the area will work together to offer extra temporary accommodation where possible, as nobody should be faced with sleeping rough, especially in freezing conditions.

During the winter period in addition to the current services available, the Council work with the Salvation Army to provide additional safe and warm emergency accommodation with hot food and drinks.

You can find more information on the Council's Homeless service web page or by calling the Council on 0191 520 5551 if you are faced with homelessness.
