Sunderland Health Champion programme

The Sunderland Health Champion programme is suitable for anyone over 18 who either lives, works, studies or volunteers in Sunderland.  As a Health Champion you will play a key role in tackling health inequalities within the city by sharing positive health messages from the Sunderland Health Champions team whilst promoting positive behaviour change and signposting those individuals who need support to local services.

We’ll provide training for those Health Champions who are interested in developing their knowledge on health topics and how to have a brief supportive conversation.

Health Champions

As a standard Health Champion we just ask that you cascade health messages to your networks/communities friends/family/colleagues from our Health Champion Team.  You also receive a monthly newsletter and have the chance to participate in “optional” quarterly network meetings.

Advanced Health Champions

For those who wish to become an Advanced Health Champion we request that you complete 3 core training modules – Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) Understanding Health Improvement Level 2, Making Every Contact Count (MECC) Smoking Brief Intervention and MECC Alcohol Brief Intervention.  After completion, you can also select other optional “bolt on” modules such as Mental Health, Healthy Weight, Financial Resilience etc.  All training is free of charge.  There is also an opportunity to volunteer at events with us or to access more advanced training down the line.
