The Military Preparation Course (MPC) is a roll on/roll off course for individuals age 16 – 24 year old who want to join the Royal Navy, British Army or RAF. The course runs three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 09.30am – 15.30pm). The course is free and all kit and equipment are provided. The course duration depends upon your individual needs and this will be discussed with the MPC Tutor.
You will study towards Level 1 & 2 Military skills that will enhance military knowledge and prepare you for your selection and training within your chosen force. This can include the following:
- Research unit and Job roles
- Values and standards of your service choice
- Appearance and personal hygiene
- Field craft including overnight activities
- Weapon handling
- Structure of the forces
Whilst on the course you will also take part in out of center activities that included a 24 hour exercise and 4 day exercise with members of the British Army. You will be involved in enrichment activities that range from:
- External speakers from the Royal Navy, British Army and RAF
- Adventure training
- Historic visits
- Orienteering/map reading
- Hill walking
- Charity events
Physical Training (PT) is conducted every day on the course with a range of military style PT and other sessions that will prepare you for your assessment center and Phase 1 Training; you will be also given advice on healthy living, diet, wellbeing and nutrition.
During the course you will take part in Functional Skills (up to Level 2 in mathematics and English) if you have not already gained these. Some job roles are require math’s and English which require the passing of technical tests and the course will help to prepare you for these in order for you to pass.
You will also study Employability Skills that include:
- Preparation for Work Level 1 & 2
- Interview techniques
- Effective communication skills
- Working with others inc. work as part of a team
- CV writing
