Percy Hedley Foundation

The Foundation was originally set up in 1953 by determined passionate parents who wanted to find a way to meet the needs of their children with Cerebral Palsy, and as we celebrate our 65th birthday the boy who inspired the organisation still lives with us today.

At the charity we provide a wide range of services to support people with Cerebral Palsy, Communication Impairments, Sensory Impairments, Complex Learning, Social Care and Therapeutic Needs. This includes two schools

and a college, children and adult residential provisions and a range of adult services which encourage the development of enterprise, independence and employment.

As one of the biggest regional charities in the country and one of the largest employers in the North East we employ over 1000 staff.

Our strategic plan is ambitious and intentionally called ‘Foundation for the Future’ and has a focus on the growing and developing of services so we can support many more service users and their families across the North East.

The founding ethos of putting people and their families at the heart of everything we do continues today.
