From December 1st, 2019 – March 2020 Sunderland City Council will be providing a Cold Weather Provision for rough sleepers in the Sunderland area. The service is funded using MHCLG’s Cold Weather Fund. The service will run alongside existing provision for rough sleepers located at Swan Lodge (Salvation Army) Sunderland. For a vulnerable person, living in a cold home increases their chance of serious illness or death. They are at higher risk of a heart attack or stroke, breathing problems, flu, depression and falls. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) have made a quick guide with the Social Care Institute for Excellence for care home managers to help prevent winter deaths and illnesses.
